A Woman Needs a Man Like A Fish Needs A Bicycle

I loved the dark, Victorian-esque rigid silhouettes at Gareth Pugh. The collection was inspired by a tribe of woman called the Asgarda that want autonomy from men and live in the Carpathian mountains.  I also enjoyed how he mixed with references to mid-century couture. I appreciate how the whole inspiration behind the collection was woman who are strong and want independence from men.
Asgarda tribe

Altough a stereotypical feminist would probably be against fashion, Gareth Pugh's message behind this shows challenges this idea.  He proves in this collection that fashion and feminism can work in harmony.

My Favorite Shows from Fall/ Winter 2013

Surprise! Surprise! Alexander Wang did a wonderful job for Balenciaga. I feel  foolish for ever doubting his potential at Balenciaga.

Christopher Kane never fails to impress. I love the variety of ideas the show had. It  did not seem too random, but was just enough to keep someone really interested in looking at the collection.

Alber Elbaz truly understands woman. The show was inspired by Tilda Swinton's performance at the Modern Museum of Art where she started off wearing a white robe, and then someone would add another piece of clothing for her to wear. She would look different every time.    Elbaz said that it reminded him of an old fashion show but that it was very modern at  the same time. This bought Alber toward trying to create clothes that were inspired by old couture and introducing it to a young audience.

Willy Vanderperre

Willy Vanderperre is one of my favorite fashion photographers. He was born in 1971 in Belgium. He studied photography at the Academy of Art in Antwerp. One the first day of class, he met Olivier Rizzo, a stylist he often collaborates with. I love the minimalist aesthetic of the ad campaign he shot for Dior.(above)
I also love this photo shoot from W magazine titled "Making a Scene". I admire how he mixed different refences (Cindy Sherman and Pina Bausch) without copying the original source.

I cannot express this man's genius. If I upload all the amazing photos he shot, we would be here all night. I am just speechless. Simply speechless.
